Throwing a Costume Party 101
A costume party gives you a chance to dress up and be someone you typically aren’t. It also gives you a reason to get done up and have fun with friends. You can be someone wild and crazy like a pirate or someone elegant and classy like a princess. A costume party gives you the chance to act as someone you have wanted to for sometime while dancing and having a memorable time with friends and family. We have some tips for you to consider when throwing a costume party.
Decide a date
Try to pick a specific date for your costume party, this makes picking a theme much easier. For example, if you pick want to have your costume party in December then you can make the theme of the party Christmas. If you pick a random date then you would need to select a costume theme for the party or leave it open. Costume parties are very common during Halloween and Christmas time.
Decide a theme
The theme of the party pretty much sets the mood of the party. You will want to decide a fun and exciting theme. The more exciting theme you select, the better costumes you will get to see. Some people even purchase and set out costumes for their friends and family members. A friend recently threw a costume party which was themed around the movie Grease. She went out and got costumes for everyone she invited here. She asked everyone’s sizes beforehand and ordered the costumes accordingly. This took the hassle of buying the costume away from the guests and allowed us to just go to the party stress free. We have some ideas for themes:
- A Movie theme
- Arabian Nights
- Speakeasy Party
- Toga Party
The theme sets the tone and mood of the party but if you want to leave it open then you can do that also. This allows your guests to dress up as anything they want.
The theme basically tells you exactly what decorations are required. If you base your theme around a movie then you can set your place up like a specific place from the movie. In the Arabian Night theme, you can empty out your living room and have rugs set out. You can have low tables set with cushions on the floor while having white drapes around the room so it feels like the party is in a tent. Instead of using lights have candles lit on tables and use incense to top the room off with a little extra Arabic touch.
The theme and decoration goes hand in hand. If you do not select a theme then you can have a normal setup where the guests are just in costume meeting each other.
The following tips we have will make sure your party is successful:
- Sent out the invitations well in advance. Give your guests at least a 2 weeks notice to mark the date and RSVP so you know they are attending the party.
- Keep the food and drink simple; do not spend too much time on it. Rather to make the party a success you can spend more time and effort on the decoration and your own costume.
- You don’t need to think off too much entertainment. Costumes themselves are quite entertaining and a wonderful bit for conservations.
· Don’t forget to have fun and take as many pictures as you can.
